Actor Alec Baldwin accidentally shot and killed cameraman Galina Hutchins and wounded director Joel Sousa on the set of Rust in New Mexico. This is reported by The Hollywood Reporter with reference to law enforcement agencies. Baldwin fired a weapon that was used as props and was supposed to be loaded with blank cartridges – he did not know that it contained live ammunition.
“Rifle firearms were used to shoot the scene,” police said. “Investigators are looking into how and what type of projectile was fired.”
Galina Hutchins was taken by helicopter to the University of New Mexico hospital, but the doctors did not manage to save her. Joel Sous is in critical condition at the hospital. Alec Baldwin volunteered for police interrogation – the media notes that the actor is experiencing grief and severe shock.
A spokesman for the film crew announced the suspension of production of the film. “The entire cast and crew are absolutely shocked by this tragedy, and we express our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Galina. We will suspend production of the film indefinitely and will work with Santa Fe County police, ”the production said in a statement.
